The Karpeles Manuscript Library preserves the largest private collection of original Manuscripts in the world. The museum was founded in 1983 by David Karpeles and Marsha Karpeles who created the museum to stimulate interest in learning, especially in our children. All of the Karpeles Manuscript Library services are free.
The list of documents you see on the left represents a sample from over one million manuscript pages that the library has to offer. We are beginning an aggressive expansion of this web site. Our goal is the have thousands of documents for you to see in the near future. Please check back periodically. This site will be completely interactive and we hope it will represent the single best learning resource available today.
In collaboration with the Center for Applied Technologies in Education at the University at Buffalo , some of these manuscripts are now equipped with an interactive tool enabling the user to view the document's transcription. Look for the triangle near the top left of the manuscript and drag it toward the bottom right to reveal the transcription. This provides a 21st Century glimpse of ways students and life-long learners can interact with handwritten documents and manuscripts.
